It is perfect for the Ultra-light backpacker, camper, hiker, traveler, Boy Scout, and hunter or for emergencies. Unlike many similar filters on the market today, LifeStraw has met EPA standards for water filtration in independent testing. LifeStraw has been used around the world under extreme conditions for humanitarian relief. Does not filter chemicals, salt, viruses, heavy metals, taste. Please NOTE: It takes roughly 3-5 seconds of sucking to start the flow of water through the filter.
If you frequently hike and camp in the backcountry all over the United States, carrying the amount of water that you need to survive during these trips is just not feasible due to the weight. In the past, people always carried different General Ecology First Need XL water purifier and refilled Nalgene bottles with it. Since getting a LifeStraw you will most likely won't be doing that any longer since the LifeStraw is smaller and lighter than the First Need XL. Every stream, lake, or any other water source that on your journey you can use your Lifestraw. You can drink fresh snow melt and also from lakes that are home to beavers and other wildlife. There was no added taste to the water and you will don't get sick during or after the trip.
The one drawback to the LifeStraw is that it does take a bit of suction to start and keep the water flowing. When you're at high altitudes in the mountains this leads to longer "drink breaks" since you can get winded pretty easy while trying to suck up water through the LifeStraw. However, its size and weight advantages when hiking mountainous terrain vastly out weight this minor drawback.
Overall, the LifeStraw is awesome and you will recommend it to every backcountry hiker.

I had to read your review of LifeStraw, because I wanted to read what you guys are saying about this great product. You guys have said it all. This is a great product for the money for any backpacker. I know it requires suctioning to start, but that is a small price to pay for the great service.
